Notes from HQ

This is a brief notice to all current members of the group. We want to remind everyone that if they are leaving the roleplay to please give notice. You can do this with an OOC post as well as a message to the HQ blog. The message to HQ is especially important as it allows us to maintain an up to date roster of the current characters involved in the roleplay.

[Remember, until further notice the FarisTaejin account will be serving as the HQ blog for messages.]

Notes from HQ: Important Notice For All Members!

We apologize for non-activity and lack of updates. Currently, the official admin of Taejin’s Army is and will remain unavailable until further notice. However, this does not mean the group will be taking a hiatus. All members are encouraged to continue with the roleplay as always.

Until the main admin is available, please send all notices, inquiries, and concerns to the FarisTaejin account.

We would like to take this moment to remind members to stay active and try to show some activity every two weeks. If you will be absent longer than that, it is not an issue although an ooc post to notify the group is appreciated.

Thank you for your patience during this time!

Would you ever consider allowing Kingdom Hearts characters to be added to the masterlist, or would you prefer for the characters to remain consolidated to Final Fantasy?

At this time, unfortunately, we are not considering Kingdom Hearts characters. This stance may change in the distant future, as more Final Fantasy characters are claimed and less remain available for selection, but we do not anticipate this to occur anytime soon.

The exception to this rule would be if a character (Kingdom Hearts or other) has made a guest appearance in a Final Fantasy game; in general, so long as a character appears in a Final Fantasy titled game, however brief, we will consider that character’s application.

Name: Genesis Rhapsodos.
Age: 26.
Weapon of Choice: Rapier.
Primary Role: Ravager - Fire, Flamestrike, Flash*
Secondary Role: None.

Personality: Despite his brash, temperamental, and somewhat juvenile behavior, Genesis will receive orders and carry them out to the best of his ability. He’s arrogant, but he will follow the instructions of those in a position of power — however, he isn’t the type to keep silent about any disagreements he may have. In some ways he can be rebellious, but not in matters that are considered ‘life and death.’ Automatically he’s defensive when challenged, but in a non-threatening environment he can have a pleasant, even charming personality. He appreciates poetry, particularly a not-so-well-known poem titled LOVELESS, and has a taste for the exotic, but his refined taste and pride taken in his appearance will not hinder him from carrying out orders, though whining might ensue once the ordeal is done.

Background: Genesis grew up in a little town far from the hand of war. When he was young he would dream of fighting off enemies of all varieties, and came to believe that it is his innate right to become a revered hero. Though withdrawn and creating few intimate relationships, attention is what he thrives for. It was a stroke of luck that he was built thin and nimble, built for quick sword work and magic, and he learned quickly skill sets he believed he would need to carry out what he saw as his destiny.

He had began training for the SOLDIER program when word of Taejin’s Army reached his ears, and his goal changed. Instead he enlisted to fight among the group, visions of fame in his mind and a starving artist’s thirst for the tragedies that war and solider life brings.

Writing Sample: Some may have thought him crazy to wear boots and a crimson duster on the battlefield. Perhaps they drew comparisons between the color of his coat and a target, or joked of tripping over his own feet, or perhaps truly no one thought enough to ponder his choice in wardrobe.

But Genesis was a poetic soul, and not even the battlefield would damper such — his coat was crimson, the color of blood, the symbol of fire, blood, confidence, vitality, and life itself. There was not a color more passionate than red, Genesis would argue if confronted. If enemies saw it as a target, then fine, let them come; he was confident in his abilities to overtake any challengers and teach them the proper way to view his red leather ensemble — it was a warning, a beacon of looming victory for Taejin’s Army — in Genesis’ eyes, at the very least.

The heels had no symbolic purpose, though perhaps he could invent one if questioned; instead they merely helped him tower equally with a majority of the other tall soldiers. Without them he was five feet, ten inches, and with he was a striking six feet, two inches. Intimidation, being able to look most either in the eye or down on them — there were numerous motives behind his choice in footwear.

And no, for gods’ sakes, he wasn’t going to trip.

Name: Stella Nox Fleuret
Age: 21
Weapon of Choice: A gilded rapier with a winged-hilt.
Primary Role: Ravager [Fire/Thunder/Water, Flamestrike/Froststrike/Sparkstrike]
Secondary Role: Synergist [Buffer]

Personality: As expected of royalty, Stella is a polite and cultured young woman who does her best to not overstep the boundaries of good taste and civility. She carries herself with queenly grace, yet is careful not to appear cavalier and self-important. She ensures that each and every movement made is nothing short of elegant, a manner she upholds even in the midst of battle. Some may think this is rather self-centered of her, but because of her proper upbringing, the urge to always maintain a ladylike semblance has become second nature to her.

A nurtured extrovert, Stella is generally an affable and gentle-natured person. Occasionally, if comfortable enough to let her walls down, she will show a childish and teasing side. She is never afraid to start or hold down conversation, and is very direct in her speech. Stella isn’t in the least bit shy, and will readily express her beliefs without concern for opposition.

There are, however, other sides to Stella that contrast with her socialite persona. For one, she isn’t as confident as she makes herself out to be. Stella is utterly submissive to her father, and will do everything in her power to appease and honor him. She strives for perfection, a notion imposed on her since childhood, and anything falling short of that expectation is unacceptable. While she speaks freely of general matters, Stella is actually very secretive when it comes to her personal feelings, and she doesn’t open up easily to other people.

When deployed in missions, Stella’s demeanor adapts to the severity of the situation. She will take on a no-nonsense approach and a calm air. This way, she is able to keep a cool head under pressure and therefore able to effectively conceive strategies. She isn’t one to act on impulse, and will always ask for her partner’s input before acting on a plan. After her near-death experience as a child, Stella has developed an animosity for feral beasts, especially those of the behemoth kind. Should she encounter one, her usually benign and mellow visage will ice over, and her onslaught will be relentless and unsparing. It’s one of her unrefined points; a penchant she can’t seem to rid herself of.

Background: Stella originates from the Kingdom of Tenebrae, a large province located a great distance from Oerba. The royal Fleuret family has reigned over the kingdom for centuries, with King Sol as its current monarch. Stella is heiress apparent to throne, and she will be crowned queen after her father secedes from the throne.

Prior to Stella’s birth, Tenebrae had waged brutal war with an enemy nation. The violent strife persisted for weeks, with both factions sustaining casualties in the hundred-thousands. Among Tenebrae’s deceased were most of the kingdom’s formidable soldiers – all magic-users. The royal family was not exempted from the warfare, with all power-wielding members obligated to serve.

Magic was not a prevalent skill amongst Tenebrae’s denizens. While most families had at least one magic-wielder in their lineage, the ability was rarely inherited. It had a tendency of emerging unmethodically; in some cases, the ability would skip an entire generation until it appeared. Hence, the number of impotent residents far outnumbered the gifted ones – a fact the enemy thoroughly exploited.

While emerging victorious, the kingdom’s source of magic diminished greatly after the war. Only a few wielders remained in the entire province, rendering Tenebrae’s militia weak and unstable. The greatest misfortune, however, occurred within the royal family. Of the few magic-users in the Fleuret family, the king was the only surviving wielder.

Stella was the first-born and only child of Sol and Luce Fleuret, Tenebrae’s king and queen, respectively. As her father’s successor, her adolescence consisted of daily lessons in etiquette, feminine arts, academics and fencing. Whatever time she had away from her studies was squandered in tedious soirees, functions, and conferences. Laded with all the obligations that were demanded of a crown princess, she never had time to fully enjoy her youth, and often felt as though she were living in a gilded cage.

As sole heiress, the king had greatly anticipated Stella’s use of magic. That had not been the case. Stella showed no hint of power. She was weak and uncoordinated – characteristics a magic-user would never have. Without a powerful sovereign to succeed him, how would Tenebrae sustain?

When Stella was eleven, a celebration was held in honor of the king. However, because Stella was of the royal family, she was not allowed to frolic around the streets since it would have been unseemly of a princess to do so. It was torturous for the inquisitive princess to just sit back and watch as everyone indulged in the exciting festivities. So she came up with a plan. Feigning fatigue, the king allowed her to retire to her room. Instead, she ran for the stairs and past the guards, successfully escaping the confines of her castle unnoticed.

While she was enjoying the carnival games, an explosion was heard. The fortress that surrounded the kingdom collapsed, and a swarm of armored soldiers attacked. It was an enemy ambush, purposely launched on the king’s birthday to blindside him. Screams of terror rang in the air as people stampeded left and right. Stella tried to shelter herself from the fray. However, a massive behemoth spotted her. Terror-stricken, Stella was paralyzed in place, and as the behemoth bolted toward her, Stella closed her eyes and cried out.

An earsplitting screech sounded, and when Stella opened her eyes to see, the attacking behemoth was on the floor, twisting on the ground as flames him. Hovering over her small palms were flares of ember, yet it did not scorch her. A fiery aura of light surrounded her, and a large, winged-crest appeared behind her. Her dormant power had awakened.

Stella’s recently-acquired gift changed the king. As if the weight of the world had been lifted from his shoulders, the king was hearty. His usual cold and callous air was replaced with one of leniency and compassion, and he showed an affectionate side to him that Stella had never seen. The king brought it upon himself to personally train Stella, and was stringent in his teachings.

When Stella was eighteen, she had mastered every technique he had to offer. Even then, the king was not satisfied. Magic was a rarity, and he wanted Stella to exploit the full extent of her power. He wanted to leave behind an indomitable and unyielding ruler. However, there was more to a monarch than just physical prowess, and the king had neglected that. As such, Stella spent the remainder of her youth cultivating herself in the politics of becoming a queen.

A few months after she turned twenty-one, the king implored Stella to visit Oerba, a village renowned for its exceptional warriors. He ordered her to enlist in Taejin’s Army, the village’s militia, and expected to hear of her achievements and progress. And so, to appease her father, Stella embarked on her journey to Oerba Village… not that she had much choice.

Writing Sample: Pant. Pant.

Stella wiped the beads of perspiration with the back of her hand, all the while keeping a steadfast gaze on her father. Her chest heaved, short-winded from all the parrying. How is he this fast?!

Before her stood the King of Tenebrae, a fair-haired, statuesque man donned in a fastidious black suit – attire that was entirely against fencing etiquette. Even so, his movements were artful and deft, making for quick and agile thrust attacks. Unlike Stella, his composure was placid and his poise steadily intact. The corner of his lips twitched as he regarded his daughter smugly, his fencing foil pointed at her. “Tired, are we?”

She shook her head aggressively. “O-of course not,” she muttered in between breaths. “Just g…give me a minute, please…”

The king let out a low chuckle. “Still unyielding as ever, I see.” He lowered his foil with a sigh and approached the breathless heiress. He placed a large hand atop her head, a warm smile in his features. “Breathlessness is an unbecoming feature on a princess, my child. Come; let us retire for the time being.”

Stella frowned. Why was it that she could never hold her own when sparring with her father? He had invested so much time in trying to make her an able fencer, yet she always fell short from his expectations. The king never showed it, but she could sense his disappointment. “Of course, Your Majesty…” Loosening her grip on her rapier’s hilt, the entire length of the blade shimmered gold before dematerializing. She claimed the bench seat beside his, her eyes downcast.

A maid, who had been present the entire duration of the spar, scurried over to them. “Water, Your Majesties?” The brunette held out a silver platter with multiple glasses of water.

“Thank you.” Stella pressed the rim of the glass to her lips, taking generous sips here and there. To be honest, Stella was parched, and while instincts impelled her to swallow the entire glass whole, her amenities said otherwise. Small sips, Stella. Small sips.

“Have you taken into consideration what we spoke about?”

Stella turned to look at her father, his adamant amethysts fastened on to her. Ah, he speaks of the village. “Of my enlistment in Taejin’s Army, right?” The king had proposed Stella join an army that was a great distance from Tenebrae, in a village named Oerba. Even though he had phrased it in a way that it seemed like she had a choice, Stella knew she had no volition in this matter. She usually never did.

He nodded. “They’re a well-accomplished force, known throughout all of Gran Pulse for their gifted soldiers. Joining their ranks will undoubtedly be most beneficial, I’m sure. I have taught you all I can, Stella. You still lack in many areas despite my instruction, but it cannot be helped considering the other obligations I must attend to. Therefore, I want you to serve in Taejin’s Army – they will certainly invest in you the time and knowledge I cannot. You undoubtedly excel, Stella. You will one day become queen of this kingdom. Before that, you must become strong. Strong enough to protect your people.”

“Yes, Your Majesty. I will do as you say. I will join Taejin’s Army.”
