An Alternate-Universe, Mission-Based Final Fantasy Role-Play

To give up hopes, dreams, and desires; to lay down your life for the protection of your country; to keep faith in a future with no guarantee of realization: Even facing death, I will stand strong.

This is the mission statement of Taejin's Army. Each soldier has a story to tell, a path to take and battles to overcome.

Are you ready to begin yours?

A much needed explanation and decisions about the future:

I’ve been wondering what to do about this for a while but the fact of the matter is that it’s been way too long since I’ve heard from the actual admin (and I have been sending her many emails). To preface this, no one is being blamed for anything in this post and that includes the actual admin. Life and other interests have gotten in the way for all of us so there’s no reason for anyone to be pointing fingers.

I know that at one point or another Taejin’s Army is going to have to end. The question I’ve been seriously grappling with the past few weeks is whether or not now is that time. The answer that I ultimately came to is no.

After speaking with other members and gathering some form of consensus, it’s clear that we’re all still interested in this group and our ongoing threads. I know that I really want to finish the threads I have going on right now too.

That being said, I really don’t have the motivation to continue standing in for the admin here. And regardless of how interested and invested we all are, it’s pretty clear that most of the members here are simply not up for being 100% active.

So I’ve come up with a solution. I’m signing off as admin and TA is officially closing. That means no new members, no new missions, no work on the timeline, etc.

However, I strongly encourage everyone who is still interested in the group and the characters to keep their accounts open and to continue RPing here. You can feel free to finish your existing threads and missions (even the ones that haven’t been started yet). You can even start some new casual threads if you so choose.

This way there won’t be any pretense as to how active any of us have to be. We can just continue at whatever pace we each can manage and feel up to. Essentially it’ll be the same as the first time the admin left for a while (for those of us who were there for that).

Whether or not the group ever reopens and becomes fully functional again will depend on whether or not the actual admin returns (or the VERY slight possibility that I will take up admining on here again).

Thanks for your understanding, guys! I hope to see all of you around on the dash while we continue doing what we can with the group. And if anyone has any questions, I’m still perfectly available to answer them.

Taejin’s Army is in need of Medics!

Medics specialize in healing. Medics can work on or off the field in healing the wounded and treating their ailments. However, while a medic serves a vital role on the field in keeping allies alive, they seek proper protection so as to not get injured themselves.

Medics are a vital part of the Army’s community. Without their expertise, the village of Oerba’s soldiers would be left to fend for themselves; their numbers whittling down without proper medical treatment. In providing the care that keeps Taejin’s Army on its feet, Medics keep the people safe and ensure that their comrades can continue to fight another day.

Taejin’s Army is a closed, alternate-universe, third person role-play group based on Tumblr. Set in the world of Final Fantasy XIII, Cocoon never existed, and people live in relative peace on Gran Pulse.

But recently, the quiet village of Oerba has seen more vicious monster attacks, and similar reports are being heard in the taverns and marketplaces of villages and towns all over Gran Pulse. The recent increase in attacks has mysteriously coincided with another event: A catastrophic event caused Taejin’s Tower, an ancient and mysterious tower built on the cliffs near Oerba, to buckle and collapse, resulting in massive devastation to the nearby area.

The people of Oerba decided: To stop the flow of monster attacks, they needed to form a militia. Taejin’s Army, as it came to be known, stands to this day, attracting soldiers and recruits from all stretches of land to join their ranks.

Each soldier has a story to tell, a path to take and battles to overcome. Are you ready to begin yours?

All Roles currently welcome: Consider joining Taejin’s Army to turn your talent towards helping the people. In joining the army of Oerba you can play your part in saving lives, investigating monster activity, and aid in the ultimate goal of protecting Gran Pulse as we know it.

A Note for Members

It’s come to our attention that several threads have been lost. This happens when a member does not spot the other’s reply or sees it and then forgets about it. We encourage members to remind their partners of the thread when their reply is taking an uncharacteristically long time to be posted.

In order to avoid issues like this, we also recommend members check for replies under the new Activity button on Tumblr. It should be in the right sidebar at the top of your Dashboard. While all members should scroll the dashboard on a fairly regular basis, checking your Activity section should help ensure that no replies are missed.

Thank you.

Name: Alyssa Zaidelle
Age: 27
Weapon of Choice: Gun – Procyon (Final Fantasy XIII)
Primary Role: Saboteur; Inhibitor
Secondary Role: Ravager (Flamestrike, Aquastrike, Sparkstrike, Galestrike)

Personality: Curious and persistent, Alyssa is a rather headstrong individual with a desire for knowledge. Sometimes she can come off as brash or stubborn, but Alyssa really is a friendly and outgoing sort of person. The sort of person who’d go out of her way to help out a friend, she makes bonds rather easily with those that she shares a mutual understanding and common goal with. She’s not afraid to stand up for herself, and she’s not afraid to speak what’s on her mind. She considers herself a strong sort of girl, and doesn’t take well to the idea of sitting around and letting others take care of her.

All things considered, however, Alyssa doesn’t mind spinning a tale to get what she wants. If she thinks it will be a means to an attractive end, she’ll fabricate whatever she feels she needs to, and maybe then some. She’s usually able to deflect most of the social repercussions of her deception by either not getting caught or using the bubbly part of her personality to convince the person to forgive or forget. When it comes to her work, though, Alyssa will rarely, if ever, tell a lie. She does take her work very seriously and doesn’t much care to jeopardize her chance to utilize the facilities of the army for further research.

Background: Alyssa grew up in a small village just outside Oerba. As a child, her town was violently raided and as she and her friend took shelter inside a shoddily built barn, the hostilities moved toward their hiding spot and collapsed the barn on top of them, killing her best friend and leaving her heavily injured. Post-raid, her father moved the family from the village and Alyssa began traveling with her father. It was during this time that she learned to lie. Alyssa could be someone new, completely different. No longer did she have to be the girl who was victim to a terrible monster attack, the girl who lost her friend needlessly. She could be anyone she wanted and no one would feel sorry for her.

It was through her travels that she developed a love for research. Everywhere she went, she learned something new, and everyone she met could teach her something different. After several years of moving around, her father grew tired of the life they led, but Alyssa was just getting started. She parted ways with her parents and went after her goals, heading on her way toward Oerba and the Army of Taejin to secure a place in their research facilities, hoping to do her part for those suffering from attacks like she had when she was a child.

Writing Sample: Alyssa huddled her jacket tighter and went for a double-check on the pistol in her holster. She didn’t have much in the way of weaponry, but to get her over to Oerba, it would have to be enough. The shoddy gun she’d had since practically forever would have to last long enough before finally breaking down for good. They’d been in several sticky situations, her dad and herself, in which Alyssa was almost monster toast because the damn thing stuck and wouldn’t fire. She kept her fingers crossed for her solo journey this time around.

Up until now, Alyssa had always depended on her father, had always taken up the rear and had his back while he kept her safe at point, but it was time that she stood on her own two feet for once. She was a grown ass adult now and she should have gone on her way a long time ago as far as she was concerned. Still, she was such a daddy’s girl, and it was hard to argue that the two didn’t make a damn good team when it came down to it. It may have been seen as reckless, a father toting around his daughter, especially when they first set out on their journey, possibly allowing his emotions to mar his judgement, but Alyssa proved quite a capable shot, and she wasn’t afraid to tell anyone off who gave them lip about it.

She could see Taejin’s Tower slowly growing larger and clearer in the distance. This was it, this was what she’d been dreaming of for so long now. If only for a moment, Alyssa wanted the chance to be part of something great, have access to the most advanced technology on the planet, maybe prevent a young girl from losing her best friend… The fuzzy outline of the tower only fueled her hunger and she hastened her pace, practically jogging as she drew closer. She wouldn’t rest, wouldn’t stop until she was there. It was only a matter of how fast her legs could carry her now.

Name: Leylani (Leila) Rosario

Age: 20

Weapon of Choice: Dancing Dagger

Primary Role: Synergist, Augmenter

Secondary Role: Ravager (Fire, Aero, Sparkstrike)

Personality: Upon meeting her, Leila can be a headstrong, loud, outgoing, carefree spirit with a tendency for being a slight flirt. She wears revealing outfits, carries her dagger everywhere, and speaks her mind whether the people listening want it or not. However, beneath her brash exterior hides a passion and a loyalty that would allow her to put her life on the line if she felt you deserved it. Despite her fiery nature, she can easily evaluate any situation and plan the best course of action while keeping cool and calm as the situation calls for it. She’s a team player at heart, but there are times she can be a slight showoff when on the field.

Background: Leila was born as Leylani Rosario, the only daughter of a couple within nobility. She was known for her curious nature and her bubbly personality, always asking questions and making friends with whoever she ran across. Unfortunately, her father was trying to usurp power from the local royalty in secret, an act which lead him into several dangerous partnerships. One partnership, upon feeling betrayed, proceeded to set fire to Leila’s home in the dead of night, killing her parents and many of the servants and forcing Leila to fend for herself at eleven years old in the nearest town after climbing out a window and hiding in some bushes for the night.

Many of the citizens took pity on Leila and gave her food and shelter when they could, but it was never enough. One day, Leila was looking for food among the docks when she saw crates of fruit and began helping herself. Before long, she fell asleep next to the crates, and when she next awoke, she found herself on a pirate ship, the Jade. Upon discovery, the crew nearly threw her overboard, but the captain decided to make her pay for the food she stole from them and put her to work scrubbing the ship and other various jobs.

As time went on, the captain became fond of her and decided to teach her the ways of pirating. Leila felt no need in making herself a male persona since the crew knew her gender, but she changed her name to Leila as she learned about ships and pirating. Not many of the men respected her at first, but she soon proved to outclass them in many things, from combat to navigation to ship maintenance, and the captain quickly made her his first mate.

Tragedy befell the Jade upon its final voyage near Oerba. It was to be a simple restocking, but as they neared the designated port nearby the city, monsters rushed aboard and claimed the ship and the crew, including their captain. Leila was on land, talking to their supplier, when this happened, so when she saw what the monsters had done, she swore vengeance for the crew of the Jade, walked into Oerba, and looked for any ways she could help slaughter those that took her latest family away.

Writing Sample:

"Are ye sure ye know if this supply will last?"

The supplier raised his head to look the female pirate in her bright blue eyes for a second before lowering his gaze to the dagger she had pulled out. Leila was intimidating when she wanted to be, a trait most people would never associate with females, pirate or otherwise. No one could have guessed the young lady with sky blue hair and matching eyes would become a fearsome pirate, let alone as a woman. She knew it, too, and made it all the more painful for everyone by wearing revealing, feminine clothing in shades of purple and pink and using her charms to her advantage. Still, she knew her gender made no difference when her life was on the line, and her dagger was always quicker than most men’s swords.

"Of course, ma’am," the supplier said quickly, knowing he was right, but still nervous under Leila’s harsh stare and with her dagger pointing in his direction. “It should be a good few months before you’d need to look for food again."

Smirking, the young woman twirled her dagger before sheathing it and leaning against his desk, her arms folded beneath her chest to accentuate her breasts as a tease. When she knew she had the man’s attention, she coyly slipped her fingers under his chin and turned his head up to meet her amused gaze. With a playful sparkle in her eyes, she chuckled teasingly at the look on his face, a look which stated he was turned onto her new approach.

"Good lad," she replied saucily. “Now, ye wouldn’t mind if we took yer stash fer less than promised, eh? Ye wouldn’t want a lass like me to starve, would ye?"

The man shook his head, under the trance she charmed him into. With another happy chuckle, she kissed him softly on the lips before patting his head like one would a child. She then stood up and tossed the sack of money he deserved onto the desk, less gil filling it than what had been agreed on. With a flip of her cerulean hair, she exited the room with one last thought.

"T’was a pleasure doin’ business with ye, lad. I hope we get more chances to meet. Yer easy to fool."

Notes from HQ

As many of you know, we are currently trying to organize a group event. Ingus-mun and I are working together on the planning, though he is in charge of the brunt of the organizing. Recently, he made this post which was then reblogged here on the HQ several days later.

The post regards our plans for events and did prompt members to send an ask to Ingus-mun. The members who have not replied have been tagged below. Please read the post and message Ingus-mun as soon as you get the chance.

Just to be clear, this is not a reprimand. We understand that members get busy. However for the sake of the convenience of the group, please make a point of checking in every few days for announcements. Members are only required to demonstrate activity every two weeks but checking in for messages more frequently than that would be greatly appreciated.

In order to be sure that you stay up to date on group news, be sure to track your own tag [i.e. faristaejin for Faris-mun, ceciltaejin for Cecil-mun, etc.] as well as the tag “Taejin Announcements” for group announcements.

Thank you.
